Be What You Is
There is something luminous about a person when they know who they are
When they’ve lived long enough to realize that everything is a gift
I think that’s why the older we get, we see beauty in such unexpected ways
I feel sorry for the people still scrambling and grinding and trying to get somewhere
Chasing the next big thing
I wouldn’t have believed it when I was in the race but now it’s so clear
Everything we have
All the things we see
All the people who have been in your life
It’s all temporary
Nothing lasts
It’s not supposed to
Even glaciers and mountains crumble and fall
The beauty is right here
Right now, in every single thing
If you want to tryout a way of being
Start by becoming aware that you are breathing
I think so many people are never aware of their breath, it is done for us
It requires zero effort and yet we take it for granted
Also, notice your heart beat, another thing that is done automatically
In our bodies with no interference or assistance from us
And unless you’ve had a heart attack or a problem
You probably go a whole day and never even say, thank you for the very thing that is keeping you alive
You can do this with any body part
We take them all for granted
The photo is a man named, Brad Walker
He is a potter in Dahlonega, Georgia
He has had his shop,
Brad Walker Pottery for 44 years
He is one of the most easy going people I’ve ever met
He is gentle and kind
And I have a lot of his pieces in my kitchen
I think about the love he puts into his craft every morning when I have my coffee
He is not striving for more
He is quietly working, seven days a week
Welcoming the world into his
It’s worth the drive if you’re ever in Georgia
The sign above his head reads
“Be what you is”
I hope that you do
Because we are all, eventually going to pass away
And while you’re still here
Be your is
It will be a gift to all of us
