Beach Lesson

Michael and I had another beach day this week
Retirement life is working out just fine for us
As we were getting settled in
Four older women walked by, gray-haired
Thick bodied, single file march to the edge of the water
They put their chairs down and didn’t move
They really didn’t even seem to be talking to each other
They just sat there still and present
A storm cloud came over and it started to rain
They didn’t look up
They didn’t search for an umbrella
They just sat there and let it rain
It was quite remarkable to see from my chair under an umbrella, how unfazed they were
I guess with age does come wisdom and a knowing that rain will come and it will also go
It will cool you off and allow you to sit perfectly still at the waters edge, feet in the surf
Friends beside you
Knowing that this moment is perfect
Thank you my elder sisters
