I can be nice
I recently listened to the Hoda Kotb podcast, Making Space and she was interviewing Wintley Phipps
She started the conversation with this question…
Ask yourself everyday, are you giving life the best version of yourself?
I absolutely loved it!
We all know when we wake up on the wrong side of the bed
Or how we feel when something doesn’t work out like we had hoped
It’s so hard to be nice when we’re not our best
But, is it really?
We all have a default in us
A go to emotional response to most of our life
If you were raised by a dominant parent, you most likely aim to please
All the time
I have a default to take charge, almost everywhere
All the time
My husband is a saint, we’ve already established that
But, I do try to be the best version of myself daily and I often fail
Sleepless and grumpy, I’ll try again for tomorrow
It’s a valid goal, to give your best
It says in the Bible that we reap what we sow
It’s also the law of Karma, that every action gets a reaction
Actions determine destiny
The Bible also warns us to be nice to strangers because we could be entertaining angels and not know it
So, are you who you wanted to be?
Is your life all you hoped for?
I am still searching for who I’m supposed to be
I had it all figured out a decade ago
And then a catastrophic illness happened and now I’m not sure what I’m doing
Jill Bolte Taylor said, “It’s really easy to be kind to others when I remember that none of us came into this world with a manual about how to get it all right.”
So what can I do while I try to figure it out, again?
I can be nice
