Illuminate
When you allow someone into a difficult time you are having
You allow them to really see you
In a different way
Not a filtered version
But, honest and flawed
When we share our stories
Peel back our protective layer
We illuminate who we really are and we give permission for them to do the same
When our lives are open, we allow opportunity for discovery
For others to discover us and for us, to discover ourselves
Who are we
Who can we be
Who do we want to be
When we go through life disillusioned, we get disappointed with how things have gone
We all have the ability to dig a little deeper and get to what’s right
What’s going well
What we want more of
It’s like turning on a light switch to a dark room
We can’t fix what we cannot see
When you see somebody struggle
When you walk next to somebody wounded
You understand that we all battle something
That the brave can still get broken
I think we are here to be a witness to all of it
To be a part of all of it
To experience the emotions, of all of it
To learn from it
Grow from it
Share from it
Become a better version of ourselves and illuminate yourself, so others can see by our light and turn theirs on
One by one we can do that
One by one we can find a way
It’s like the scene in, The Breakfast Club when each of the teenagers confess why they’re in detention
What it’s like to be them
At home
At school
In life
And it’s riveting
And relatable
Even now decades later
It shows us
A way forward to connect
To really see others
To hear them
Because we really are all connected and
We are all a bit bizarre, whether we hide it or not
