It’s all pretty funny

“If you don’t have a sense of humor, it’s just not that funny” Wavy Gravy

I have read the above quote a lot

It’s seems simple but it’s really profound

There is so much happening to us all the time

Too much stress and too many obligations

We are over caffeinated and sleep deprived

We are all aching to connect

We are craving joy

And, we all need a good laugh

There is a lot wrong in the world

But, there’s a lot right too

Remember when the Mr Rogers movie came out

Everybody collectively felt a tenderness from childhood

A time when sweetness was possible and expected

It is possible to bring that to our adult lives, everyday

I say, yes

Joy, is in us all

We just need to remember it

Let’s focus on things that make us feel good

Just make a decision to look for things that will make you happier

It doesn’t matter what else is going on because in this moment

The one right now, you get to choose

You get to choose happiness

Even if everything is falling apart and looks very bleak

You can still find a little place inside that wants to laugh

It’s fantastic to laugh and cry at the same time

I’ve done that, a lot

Spend time with people that really light you up and make you belly laugh

What if you sang in traffic instead of shouting

Can we smile at the stranger passing us on the street

Yes, we can

We can and we should

Right below anger sits funny

Have you ever noticed that when you are really steamed up

Extremely mad about something

Then when you tell the story later, you laugh really hard

Or the stories of people’s Roombas running over cat vomit or dog poo

It’s not funny at the time until later, than it is hilarious in the retelling

Why is that?

I think joy is under there, waiting to get recognized

What if we found the funny, first

What if instead of yelling, we giggled

Yes, others around you might think you’ve gone nuts

So what

I bet anything, that given a couple of seconds

They’d be laughing too

Babies laugh before they talk

We are born with built in joy

There is an old saying that, “laugher is the best medicine”

What if that’s been true this whole time

What if we have been missing the point

What if joy was our default setting all along

Wouldn’t that be a fun way to live

Wouldn’t that make work better

Time with your family better

What if we tell each other stories looking for the funny side

Instead of “getting to the point”

Because, we all have a sense of humor

Some of us are sarcastic, some humor is dry, others dirty

Find people who looking at the bright side of life

Invite them to coffee and see if their outlook can inspire you

See if you, can inspire you

Find the funny

Look for the ridiculous

Laugh out loud, even if you are by yourself

Or the only one in the picture cracking up

Let yourself be happy with all of it

Think of your story with a comic twist and share that

We all need a good laugh

Because, when you find your sense of humor, it’s all pretty funny
