Presence in the midst
Thomas Kelly, who was a Quaker mystic once said
“Deep within us all there is an amazing inner sanctuary of the soul, a holy place, a Divine Center, a speaking Voice, to which we may continually return. Eternity is at our hearts, pressing upon our time-torn lives, warming us with intimations of an astounding destiny, calling us home unto Itself. Yielding to these persuasions, gladly committing ourselves in body and soul, utterly and completely, to the Light Within, is the beginning of true life.”
He goes on to say
“It is a Light Within that illuminates the face of God and casts new shadows and new glories upon the human face. It is a seed stirring to life if we do not choke it. It is the Shekinah of the soul, the Presence in the midst.”
The light within
We all have it
We see it in each other all the time
It’s that spark of recognition
It’s the stranger on the street you smile at
It’s a knowing we all carry
We are born with it in us
I don’t think it can be lost
But, I do think it can be ignored and forgotten
So, what if we really focused on the light
In ourselves and each other
What if instead of what divides us
You find what is divine in us
What if everyone you come in contact with
Left feeling better
Happier
Easier
Lighter
We decide what energy we bring to every situation
We can light up a room by entering it
Or we can light it up by leaving
The choice is always ours to make
I love the thought of the, Shekinah of the soul
the Presence in the midst
Makes me feel connected
Comforted
Calm
And very curious
What if this year of the “great divide” ended with us
Together
Remembering what we all share
What we all know
That we are all connected
That we all breathe and bleed
That we need each other and
the Presence in the midst is in us
Lighting the way to each other
And home
