The purpose and the point

“Only the Divine matters, and because the Divine matters, Everything matters.”  Thomas Keating

Are the mundane things of our day where we find the meaning of our lives?
The berries on a breakfast plate, placed without thought a way we show our love?
The phone calls, just because
The time we spend having coffee with a friend
I ask myself all the time, does this matter?
I want to know I’m living with a purpose and that there is a point to all this
It’s hard to find, when I’m home alone all the time
But, I bet it’s hard to find when you’re home with kids too
Or busy with work and all those zoom meetings
I’m just not sure if there’s supposed to be more
Fulfillment is a tricky thing
Focusing on what we have or don’t have is also tricky
It’s great to be satisfied but where does that leave the yearning when we’re not?
I haven’t worked in eight years
The store closed in 2012
I miss it all the time
The customers
The camaraderie with my brother
The pride in how we did what we did
Lots of people this year have had to pivot
Lots of people are asking, what’s the point?
But, I’m wondering if the big picture may be misleading
The yearning for meaning may make us miss what we already have
Who we already are
The world needs us, just to be nice right now
The divide between us can only close with us
Choosing not to say something
Choosing to watch Netflix instead of the news
Sharing recipes on Facebook instead of something rude
Saying what is going right in your life, gives others permission to do the same
It elevates everyone
We are all craving something better and good company
We can be both
For ourselves and each other
That sounds absolutely divine to me and maybe that’s the purpose and the point
