What’s Right?

What’s right in your life, today?
Right now, right where you are
We all know the answer immediately
But, we always focus on what’s wrong
What about focusing on what’s working
What’s already wonderful and fulfilling
What if every time we met up with a friend
We only talked about the good stuff
Like the moments when your human life collides with the holy
When the divine meets your daily grind
The miracles that are in front of you, all the time
What if you made a list today, of all that you have
Not with critique or complaint
Just a list of all that is right in your world
There is a song that Melissa Lawson sings and the chorus is “But, what if it all goes right? What if it all works out? What if the stars line up and good luck rains down? What if you chase your dreams and it changes your whole life? Yeah, what if it all goes right?”
Isn’t that great?
I just love it and I first heard the song when I was at my sickest
Sitting in a wheelchair in my store, unable to work anymore and desperate for answers
I would listen to her voice and think that maybe I would get better
Maybe the stars would line up
Maybe the miracle would happen
And it did
I know that everyone has problems
We all have things that we’d like to change
Waist size and bank accounts are two that come to mind
But, whatever it is for you, you still have a lot that’s good
Let’s focus on those things
Bring to mind what’s right
What’s precious to you
What’s gratifying
What thoughts can you think, that will bring you joy
Think more about those things
You can pray this way too
No need to bow your head or be in a church
You can just be thankful right where you are
With what you have
Eyes open and a little smile, to say thank you
Even if it’s just for another day, to try again
As Paula D’Arcy says, “God comes to us disguised as our lives.”
I’ve lived enough life to say, that seems right to me
