You decide

"The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own. No apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on, or blame. The gift is yours, it is an amazing journey and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins." Bob Moawad

I was listening to Pastor TD Jakes recently and he was preaching on, knowing your role
It got me thinking about my life
And my role in it
It’s easy to see the roles we play looking backwards
Child
Sibling
Student
Spouse
Parent
But what about when everything changes
What do you do with the new you?
The single version
The laid off version
The healed version
The one on the road you didn’t see coming
Who are you now?
Maybe it’s an empty nest
Fresh divorce papers
A clean bill of health after a long illness
Life looks different, in almost every way
If it’s true that your thoughts determine the world that you see
What new direction can you think about taking?
“A paradigm is a set of beliefs, images, concepts, and structures that govern the way we think about something” said Thomas Kuhn
What paradigm shift can you make?
A lot of people can’t stay in the church they were raised in, for many and varied reasons
I think faith changes as we grow and understand the world and our place in it
It can deepen and soften us
Make us less judgmental and more loving
We need each other so desperately
We need to see our differences and decide to like each other anyway
We long to belong
A Persian rug has so many colors of thread, that no matter what room you put it in or what color is next to it, it will reflect that
I think people are like that too
We have so many sides that no matter who we are with
They can bring something out
Make sure they are bringing out your best
That you shine from knowing them
If not, stay away
We all saw recently what can happen when a group goes astray
Everyone loses
Everyone becomes their worst self and we all suffer
We all have the ability to decide everyday, to be our best selves
To be kinder with strangers and our families
To be slower to judge
We really do get to decide all of it
We get to make our lives an incredible experience
It’s all a gift and tomorrow is promised to no one
I hope all of it is an amazing journey for you
The beauty is, you decide
