A penny Or your thoughts

We just came back from a weekend in Chicago to celebrate my husband’s 70th birthday
It was fantastic seeing old friends, going to our favorite restaurants and just being in the city we love
We stayed at a wonderful hotel and I noticed when we checked into our room, there was a penny underneath the desk
It was evident that the housekeeper didn’t vacuum the room very well
The next day the penny was still there when we came back to our room
The third day that penny was still there
Michael took a picture of it so we could show it to the manager at check out but I wanted him to leave it there
It was forcing me to either stare at the penny and think of the negatives, like how dirty the carpet must be or to just let it go
And be grateful for everything else that was fantastic about the hotel
The positives far outweighed one penny on the floor
It did get me thinking about how often we focus on one little negative and let it ruin an event
A meal
A vacation
A relationship
When we can change our thoughts and look for the good
It can change our lives
The old saying used to be, “A penny for your thoughts”
I think it’s time we reframe it
Anytime you’re feeling negative or focusing on something that doesn’t sit right but isn’t really that big of a deal
Look around and change your thoughts
What’s great right in front of you?
Even if you are in a really rough patch of life and going through terrible challenges, you can still use this
Is focusing on the penny what you really want to do?
I’m guessing, if you reframe your thoughts
You will find your days are filled with beauty and love and things that make you feel incredibly grateful
It’s just how we see them that matters
Don’t let your day be ruined by a penny
Our thoughts and our lives should be worth more than that
