Oh, what I got

“Oh, what I got” said Merry Clayton in a recent CBS interview after losing both her legs in a car accident
She is deeply grateful for her life and to still be singing, like an angel
It made me think about what I’ve got
What I’ve gained
Been given to enjoy and appreciate
I know now
Bone deep
What a gift is
What a miracle is
Who I have beside me
The gift of figuring out, who I am
The gift of recognizing, who I was
And being okay with both versions
It’s an easy thing to get trapped in a story and continue to live like it’s still happening years later
The trick is to figure out the lessons
Change the story
Change yourself
Change your life
Change your focus
Become who you were meant to be
With all the baggage
Brokenness and beauty
The scars and the stories
It’s all in us
All the time
We are just so busy we never take the time to stop and really see it
See ourselves
See each other
See the way it was and the way it is now
And to be okay with, what we’ve got
