The gift of time

The gift of time
It may be our greatest gift we ever get
Michael went back to his office Monday
He’s been home with me working from our guest room for 77 days
It’s the longest time we’ve had together since we met
Monday also marked my sister's passing, six years ago
It’s been 2,192 days without her
One of her favorite songs was, “ Time in a bottle”
I know every word and think of her every time I hear it
But, time can’t be kept in a bottle or anywhere for that matter
It is as ethereal as the wind
The moment is here and you take a breath and it’s already another moment
When you lose someone you love so much it’s devastating
When that someone has been suffering for decades and they pass
It’s a devastating relief
It’s a combination of unbearable sadness and unbelievable comfort
The two polarities exists in perfect harmony
It’s where you are
It’s who you become
Someone who misses and someone who is relieved
Because watching someone you love suffer from pain, pills or a bottle
Is unbearable
So for those of you who have time with the ones you love
Really appreciate it
Don’t waste a second
We’ve all seen this past week that it doesn’t take a lot of time to make a big impact
That one cop kneeling on a mans neck for 9 minutes and ending his life
Has changed life, for all of us and created a butterfly effect
Around the world people march and say his name
Around our country protesters carry signs and hopes that this will finally, be the time
That it’s all done differently
That we will all be equal
That the color of someone’s skin doesn’t define them
That all human life deserves respect
I think we can all agree that it’s about time for that change
Time can’t be bottled or saved for later
We can’t get more and it doesn’t go back
It’s a gift
Let’s use what we have for good
Let the time we have on our hands mean something
Mendy meant the world to me and the time we had together helped form me into who I am
Time with my sister, mattered
The tears are here, in this moment because she isn’t
We just ran out of time
